And young people asked their parents in that era, “Explain to me again why it’s okay to have legal discrimination on the basis of skin color.” And when they could not answer that moral question coming straight from the conscience of young people, that’s when the laws began to change. And you need to ask, “Tell me again why it’s alright to put 90 million tons of global warming pollution into the atmosphere every 24 hours, 20 percent of it will still be there in 20,000 years from now.” You need to ask that question and other related questions. Don’t they see the evidence? Don’t they hear what the scientists are saying? Do they actually believe this line from the large carbon polluters that the scientists are making this up, committing fraud in order to get research grants? Give me a break. Gurjarnwala (AsiaNews) – Hundreds of Muslims attacked the Christian village of Khokarki this morning a few miles from the city of Gujranwala (Punjab), forcing its inhabitants to flee. According to AsiaNews sources, anonymous for security reasons, the attack took place following a dispute between Christian Mushtag gill and some local Muslims, who had accused the man and his son of blasphemy. Mushtaq, 60, and his son, are accused of having desecrated the Koran. BERLIN : Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday backed away from a US timeline to start pulling troops from Afghanistan in July, warning “political expediency” would benefit the Taliban. Speaking at a NATO foreign ministers meeting in Berlin, Clinton also warned of a “violent spring fighting season” in Afghanistan as the Taliban try to exert themselves in areas where Afghan forces are due to assume control. “We have to steel ourselves and our publics for the possibility that the Taliban will resort to the most destructive and sensational attacks we have seen,” she said. Clinton hailed the “heroic sacrifices” by nations in the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, and insisted there has been progress in fighting the insurgents. “We need to ensure that these sacrifices are not overtaken by political expediency and short-term thinking,” Clinton told the NATO meeting in Berlin. “We need to worry less about how fast we can leave and more about how we can help the Afghan people build on the gains of the past 15 months,” she said.

(Christian Science Monitor) — As the dust settles in Afghanistan after sustained protest over a Florida pastor’s Quran burning, many residents in Kandahar are facing an unpleasant truth: More Qurans were burned in the course of their protests than by Terry Jones. The demonstrations, which started peacefully, quickly turned violent, killing at least nine people and injuring scores in Kandahar City alone. And as protesters vandalized a girls’ school and set fire to shops, Qurans also inadvertently went up in flames. “If they burn a shop, there is a Quran in every shop, so this is a big problem,” says Azizullah Aziz, a perfume and soap salesman in Kandahar City. “People don’t know how to protest.” On Wednesday, the province’s top spiritual leaders moved to address the irony – and promote restraint at a time when passions are running high over the US war effort. They called a shura , or meeting, and told the crowd of several hundred people that gathered in a tent at Kandahar University how to protest in an Islamic manner.
