The Obama administration – in the form of Attorney General Eric Holder – admitted today in Congressional testimony that Operation Fast & Furious program was ‘reckless,’ and will likely end up getting even more people killed. Rep. Ted Poe, R-TX: Would you agree that this operation was reckless? It was a reckless operation on the part of the United States? Attorney General Eric Holder: I mean, I think that the way that it was carried out I’d certainly say it was flawed, reckless, yeah I’d probably agree with that. I mean it was done inappropriately, and has had tragic consequences and is going – as I’ve said in my opening statement – it’s going to continue to have tragic consequences… Rep. Poe: More people are going to die? Probably? AG Holder: Unfortunately, I think that that’s probably true. So. Let us recap. The Obama administration created Operation Fast & Furious, which deliberately put large numbers of guns in the hands of people who were considered likely to resell them illegally to Mexican narco-terrorists. The Obama administration did not follow the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives’ own rules for selling guns in sting operations. The Obama administration did not keep track of the guns. The Obama administration did not inform the Mexican government that the USA was arming their country’s drug gangs. The Obama administration did not do anything about the Mexican civilian deaths that resulted from Operation Fast & Furious. The Obama administration did not keep our own country’s law enforcement personnel in the loop, which inevitably resulted in at least one of our own Border Agents getting shot (possibly even by a weapon that the Obama administration facilitated). The Obama administration did not voluntarily tell the truth about any of this. And there is at least some suggestion that the Obama administration had a domestic political agenda in mind. One involving domestic gun control. Let’s not mince words: Eric Holder – and a bunch of other people mentioned by name in this article – needs to resign in disgrace. I don’t care whether he was complicit in Operation Fast & Furious or not; the actions of the Department of Justice are ultimately his responsibility, which means that so are the deaths that resulted from the DoJ’s incompetence/scheming/incompetent scheming. Let me focus on that last bit: people died because we gave other people guns and didn’t even try to control where those guns went. That makes this entire sorry mess a good deal more significant than the usual Washington scandal. The Democrats don’t want to hear that, of course. Not that I really care. Moe Lane ( Crosspost )

[Guest post by Aaron Worthing; if you have tips, please send them here .  Or by Twitter @AaronWorthing.] Update: This page seems like a good way to track information about the hurricane (via Insty ). I will tell the truth, I don’t even know what to make of this Hurricane Irene.  I lived through Hurricane Hugo when it hit Charlotte, N.C.  If memory serves it was a Category 4, barely slipping out of Category 5 range.  That left us in the dark for about a week, killed a dozen or so people.  But really unless you have a massive tree within falling distance of your house, it wasn’t particularly dangerous. And a few years ago here Isabella came through here as a Category 3.  It was like a heavy rainstorm.  At worst a few people lost power for a few days.  I don’t recall anyone dying.  I don’t even think my power went out. And now I am reading this is going to be a Category 2?  But people seem to think it is going to be very dangerous. So I will turn it over to the peanut gallery here.  How serious will this be and where do you get that belief from?  And what should a person do to prepare in the path? For what it is worth, this site has some disaster prep tips, although they are obviously also trying to sell some equipment, too. I think my working idea is this.  Have some dry goods in case you can’t heat or refrigerate anything.  I already have lots of bottled water, because I stocked up a few months ago at Costco.  Have lots of flashlights and appropriate batteries.  Have one crank flashlight/radio.  And maybe a power inverter and a full tank of gas in my car? And of course there is this advice from IMAO’s official twitter ( here and here ): I’ve lived through three major hurricanes, and my advice: Make sure your Nintendo DS is charged. Also, make sure your car has a full tank of gas so you can use the car charger to recharge your DS. Hey my wife has a 3DS ! But joking aside I am really open to your thoughts on this. President Obama is a “bully” who is “clearly failing” on economic policy, according to Newt Gingrich, and House Republicans should stop negotiating with the White House and move forward with passing their own solutions to the debt-ceiling and budget deficit. “Obama has put the ‘bully’ back in the bully pulpit,” Gingrich told reporters Friday afternoon. The former Speaker of the House and current GOP presidential hopeful accused Obama of “intellectual dishonesty,” and said congressional Republicans should “take Social Security off the table” in the current debate over the federal debt ceiling. John Boehner and House Republicans should “quit talking to Obama and start passing legislation,” Gingrich said in a conference call with a number of writers for conservative publications and blogs. Gingrich urged Republicans to be confident that the American people share their opinion of the administration’s economic failures. “This is the Obama recession and we in the Republican Party should be very confident that we can tell the truth better than the Democrats can lie,” he said. The former Speaker said that Republicans maintained control of Congress after their 1995-96 budget showdown with President Clinton because “people thought we were serious” and “prepared to take real risks” to restore sound fiscal policy in Washington.

[Guest post by Aaron Worthing; if you have tips, please send them here .] Clarence W. Dupnik, the Pima County sheriff, shot his mouth off over the weekend over the Giffords’ shooting, saying : “When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous,” he said. “And unfortunately, Arizona…[has] become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry.” So for a little morning Rule 5 fun, we get Megyn Kelly interviewing Sherriff Dupnik.  It’s not the firey kinds of interviews you are used to seeing from her, but that would be inappropriate.  Lawyers know this, and know how to quietly destroy a person’s credibility when it makes sense. And boy did she, here: And no, by invoking Rule 5, I am not saying Ms. Kelly is just a pretty face. But its nice when an impressive mind is framed so well. And this is another reason why I believe this blood libel will backfire.  We have at least one news network that will tell the truth. [Posted and authored by Aaron Worthing.]

How dare this man tell the truth! He’s obviously a rabid Islamophobe… During a debate over Islam in the US, Rev. Franklin Graham used a familiar argument against the religion: It’s unfair that Muslims can build mosques in the US while Christians can’t build churches in Saudi Arabia, according to Graham. “I understand what the Muslims want to do in America,” said Graham on ABC’s  This Week Sunday. “They want to build as many mosques and cultural centers as they possibly can so they can convert as many Americans as they can to Islam.” “And I just don’t have the freedom to do this in most Muslim countries. We can’t have a church. We’re not able to build synagogues. It’s forbidden.” But an imam who is trying to build an Islamic center in Tennessee disagreed. “For someone to say we are not allowed to build a church in a Muslim country, this is absolutely not right,” said Imam Osama Bahloul. Bahloul and Franklin were also at odds over whether violence towards women was allowed under Sharia law. “I have great difficulty with the — with the religion, especially with Sharia law and what it does for women — toward women, toward non-believers, the violence that is given in — under Sharia law,” said Graham. “For you to say that Islam is asking Muslims to beat a woman, this is absolutely not right,” replied Bahloul. “I think to — to take your daughter, because you think that — and the religion gives you the authority — Sharia gives you the authority for honor killing,” said Graham. “It does not,” interrupted Bahloul. Peter Gadiel, whose son died on 9/11, spoke up. “Your people justify it from the Koran,” he said. Note : See part one of today’s Franklin Graham sharia-smackdown.
