Rep. Phil Hare is Starting to Panic

On September 2, 2010, in Barack Obama, Congress, by markboabaca

A few months ago, Congressman Phil Hare (D-IL) was an obscure backbench Democrat in a safe House seat, in the president’s home state. With each passing day, however, it becomes clearer and clearer that his big government voting record and apathy toward the Constitution has led to a real race. First Congressman Hare was caught on video confusing the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and saying the Constitution ‘doesn’t matter to me .’ Then he calls questions about the Constitution ‘ silly stuff .’ He had already earned an ‘F’ on the Liberty Central legislative scorecard . And now comes word that he has filed an FEC complaint against a group of veterans : “The collusion between Bobby Schilling and ‘Veterans for the Constitution’ is not only unethical, it’s illegal,” Moody said in a statement… In the news release announcing the complaint, [Rep.] Hare said Schilling should “emerge from the shadows and demonstrate the courage to challenge me directly.” Schilling and the veterans group denied wrongdoing. Bill Albracht, treasurer of Veterans for the Constitution, said the complaint is a sign it’s having an effect. “We have taken the fight to Hare, and I see this as retaliation and intimidation,” he said. The group Hare is targeting has raised just $6,000 . Furthermore, I’m told by a source on the ground that Congressman Hare’s supporters have prodded the City of Canton, Illinois, to try to force  Schilling’s supporters to remove a legal billboard that highlights the importance of the Constitution – Hare’s statements notwithstanding. Hare is apparently nervous enough about his race to resort to attacking groups whose resources are so limited -a few thousand dollars here, a billboard there – that they have negligible influence. At least, they had negligible influence – until Congressman Hare elevated them. As Jim Geraghty has pointed out, at least one poll shows Hare trailing his Republican challenger by a margin of 45%-32% . Hare’s panicky reactions to these small groups suggests that poll may be right. After all, a confident incumbent would have shrugged off this opposition. Instead, Hare has given them more attention than they ever could have gotten for their $6,000, and he’s done so in a way that makes him appear vindictive and petty. Cross-posted to Liberty Central

Let’s ignore for a minute the 9% of people who have no problem with full government control, according to this Rasmussen poll . That number is disturbing in and of itself. Let’s look at this part: By a 54% to 43% margin, the Political Class believes the federal government should be allowed to do most anything. Mainstream voters reject that view by a 94% to three percent (3%) margin. Seem outrageous? It absolutely is. But when you think about it, it’s not hard to believe. Remember when Pete Stark came out and said it last week ? When they passed bills on a “trust us, this won’t hurt a bit” promise? Clearly, they know what’s best. They are the ruling class and should be in charge. Nevermind us mere mortals that, you know, pay their salaries and actually function in and drive the economy that they are currently destroying. A fundamental belief of the Left is that the government can fix anything that is broken in society, whether it be racial injustice, health care problems, failing banking systems, or evil little children that don’t pay for licensing when they set up their lemonade stands . There is this idea of a state-sponsored utopia in Washington that compels them to meddle and “fix” everything they can get their hands on. The private sector is just too stupid to be left to their own devices. Black people and women need “national leaders” and caucuses because we’re all just too stupid to “lead” ourselves. Small business owners clearly don’t know what is best for their businesses, parents aren’t trusted to know what’s right for their children, and when a CEO is failing, a President with zero private sector experience is to destroy him and buy the floundering company. After all, with such a brilliant cast of characters in Washington right now, why wouldn’t we trust them to make all of our decisions for us? The idea that more than half of the people in charge of running our country believe that the federal government should have unlimited power is terrifying, and it is the very reason that we’re forced to fight this fight right now. According to these numbers, 67% of people in the “political class” still believe that the country is generally on the right track, while a staggering 84% of mainstream voters believe that we’re headed in the wrong direction. That is a better than 40% gap between the voters and the political class. There is a fundamental disconnect between the people that we have elected to put in office and the people that make up the United States of America. We can have long conversations about how and why it happened, but the fact of the matter is that the people that are in Washington right now are there because we put them there. We are the ones with the power to change that. So, next time we sit there in awe as the government stops people from talking about the Liberty Bell or forces people to attend government approved training that doesn’t address their profession, remember who we’re dealing with. Then, do your part to get the control freaks voted out.

rearview_mirror2President Obama and his minions in Congress claim that their liberty destroying healthcare bill will cover 96% of Americans, and that no one will be denied coverage.

Unfortunately, what they don’t tell you is that Obamacare is ostensibly modeled on Medicare.

From Archimedes on HotAir.com:

Medicare’s record of “denial of service” exceeds all American insurance companies combined!.

That is the other great lie hawking to the great unwashed, that all proceedures will be covered, i.e. no denials of treatment, when of course their program has intended rationing as well as the inherent rationing that comes with doctors quitting practice here, swamping of the system and the closure of hospitals for imbalance of services and reimbursements.

The Catholic Hospital System alone nearly accounts for 1/2 of all our hospital facilities and they have made it quite clear that if abortion services are mandated they will close their operations. Poof! Just like that close to a 50% evaporation of medical care in the blink of an eye.

The disaster the Obamacare will wreak on our nation is an utter clamity in the making. Then comes the Cap & Trade debacle and the immediate and draconian reduction of our GDP that’ll ensue.

If anyone is still unclear on the concept, Obama is pulling the lynch pins of the country, his intent is to hobble us and remove the nation from the world stage as a major power.

If you need proof of what Archimedes is saying please check out the 2008 National Insurer Health Report Card, and the graphic here:

If you’re unclear as to what liberties and freedoms will be taken from you by Obama, read this:

“Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail.

The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.”
