Romney’s Endorsement Train Chugs Along (Today it’s Paul Ryan)

On March 30, 2012, in Barack Obama, by clarenbachvanderkam718

Yesterday it was Florida Senator Marco Rubio and former President George H.W. Bush who endorsed Mitt Romney for president. The media’s reaction was a yawn, claiming more out of hope than out of belief that the endorsements were not ” high impact .” What will they say about Friday’s endorsement of Romney by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan just days before the critical Republican primary election in Ryan’s home state of Wisconsin? Perhaps it’s no surprise that the presidential candidate who most aggressively supported Ryan’s budget proposal gets the endorsement. But for Ryan it is clearly more than that. Here’s Paul Ryan quoted in The Hill note linked above: “We vote here Tuesday in Wisconsin. Lots of my friends, family, supporters are asking me, you know, ‘Who do you think we should vote for?’ I have two criteria I am using to make my decision to vote in our primary Tuesday. Who is the best person to be president – who will be the best president? And who has the best chance of defeating Barack Obama? And in my mind, Mitt Romney is clearly that person.”

The RSC budget was defeated earlier today, but the good news is that it garnered the support of 136 Republicans , 56% of the conference.  Or did it?  Take a look at this summation from The Hill of the roll call vote and ask yourselves what we are supposed to think about the leadership within the conference: Members rejected the RSC proposal in a 136-285 vote in which 136 Republicans supported it and 104 Republicans opposed it. That’s more support than the RSC budget received last year, when 119 Republicans favored it and 120 opposed it. The increase was due mostly to the decision by Democrats to vote against it rather than to vote “present,” as they did last year. In 2011, most Democrats voted “present” at the last minute, causing a chaotic scene in which many Republicans were forced to oppose the proposal lest it pass over Ryan’s budget, which was preferred by leadership.House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Ca.) appeared to thwart the “vote present” strategy this year by holding down the GOP vote totals until after the electronic vote had closed. Once the clock had ticked down, at least ten GOP members voting against the amendment switched to “yes.” At the very least, it shows that our efforts to educate Republican voters about their members’ voting records is working.  At the very worst, it means that we need to find more innovative ways to expose them as frauds. P.S. FYI.. Adam Kinzinger voted no, while Manzullo voted yes – and he wasn’t one of the vote switchers.  Just sayin’

Pettitte Comes Out of Retirement

On March 17, 2012, in Barack Obama, by TrevorLandon

I didn’t see this coming. Andy Pettitte, who retired after the 2010 season, has signed a minor league deal with the New York Yankees. Well, I guess you can never have enough pitching. However, it appears the Yankees are worried about the diminished velocity on Michael Pineda’s fastball . It also appears the Yankees aren’t so sure about either Freddy Garcia and Phil Hughes. Apparently, Pettitte’s family opposed his retirement and are delighted with his decision to make a comeback. Translation: His wife wants him to get out of the house. In sixteen big league seasons with the Yankees and the Houston Astros, Pettitte won 240 big league games
