Occupy DC’s roommates overjoyed. (CNSNews.com) – Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli says he is worried that a new District of Columbia law that governs how pest control operators must handle rats may result in entire rodent “families” being relocated across the Potomac River into Virginia by D.C. pest control personnel. Annnnnd now VA AG Cuccinelli is *not* backing changing the primary ballot.
Interesting ; and a pretty strong reversal from Saturday’s statement . “I obviously feel very strongly that Virginia needs to change its ballot access requirements for our statewide elections,” Cuccinelli said in a statement. “However, after working through different scenarios with Republican and Democratic leaders to attempt to make changes in time for the 2012 presidential election, my concern grows that we cannot find a way to make such changes fair to the Romney and Paul campaigns that qualified even with Virginia’s burdensome system. “A further critical factor that I must consider is that changing the rules midstream is inconsistent with respecting and preserving the rule of law — something I am particularly sensitive to as Virginia’s attorney general.” A blow to every campaign that isn’t Romney’s or Paul’s, of course. It also appears from this that Cuccinelli is falling into line with the VA GOP’s position that it didn’t do anything wrong in the first place. Motivations I will leave up to the individual reader, although I would suggest that there are alternatives to nefarious plots… Moe Lane ( crosspost )

Cuccinelli Not Sold on Romney, Gingrich
Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli came away from this weekend’s Huckabee presidential forum, mentioned by Aaron, unimpressed with Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney. Of Gingrich, Cuccinelli, one of three attorney generals to lob questions at the forum, said after the event: “My benchmark was I want to leave with comfort that each of these six candidates is going to be a limited government conservative president. And despite pressing Newt Gingrich several times, I didn’t get that. I did not get that. We could have another compassionate conservative on our hands. I did not get that commitment.” And of Romney: “I don’t see a lot of distance there between him and the president.” Cuccinelli repeated those criticisms in subsequent interviews, calling Romneycare “Obamacare light” and saying that “elements” of Gingrich’s congressional record are “anything but conservative.” The Virginia attorney general is a leader in the legal fight against Obamacare and recently announced he will be running for governor. Cuccinelli was widely praised for his role in the Huckabee forum.

Thoughts on Huckabee’s GOP Forum
Kudos to Mike Huckabee for bringing together the GOP candidates (save for Jon Huntsman) for a forum on his Fox News Channel show. Each candidate was asked an extensive set of questions by three Republican State Attorney Generals – Ken Cuccinelli of Virginia, Pam Bondi of Florida and Scott Pruitt of Oklahoma. He provided an opportunity for the candidates to speak about the role of the federal government, state government, the courts and the Constitution. Now I did not see Newt Gingrich’s session and thus not in a position to comment
